Questions Interviewers Ask
Interviewing for a job, can be considered a job in its self, but what will easy some of the anxiety is knowing what type of questions to expect from the interviewer. Just what is the interviewer seeking to ascertain during your interview? The main goal of the interviewer is to find the best applicant for the job. Successfully accomplishing this task depends on selecting productive interview questions. That being said, the skilled interviewers will select interview questions that will enable them to assess the attitude and aptitude of each interviewee. The interviewers should make it a point to ask certain types of questions and avoid asking other types of questions. Note the following:
AVOID THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:
- Closed questions should be avoided, because they obtain very limited information
- Loaded or leading questions should be avoided because they suggest a correct answer. As an interviewer you want to know what the employee is thinking, therefore avoid questions that will lead the interviewee to a certain answer.
ASK OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS:
- Why do you want to work here?
- What are your strengths?
- What is your weakness?
- Why should we hire you?
- What make you think you are the right applicant for the job.
- How will we benefit by hiring you?
- Where can you see yourself in the next five years?
Another approach a skilled interviewer will take, is to ask the employee to describe how you dealt with a situation or performed a skill in the past. Note some example below:
- Describe a difficult situation or task you had to deal with?
- Give me an example of you performing under stress?
- Describe a situation where you had to think outside the box?
- Give me an example of your successfully managing or leading others?
- Give me examples of you working with people of diverse backgrounds?
- Describe a situation where you had to effectively use your communication skills?
- Describe a situation that shows evidence that you are a team player?
Of course, the type of questions asked by the interviewer will very according to the job position that the interviewer is seeking to fill, each company will have it's own needs and preferences. However, knowing what to expect from the interviewer, will position you ahead of the game, it will help you be well prepared, allowing you the opportunity to give the interviewer plenty of information. Your providing sufficient information will help the interviewer see that you are in fact, the best applicant for the job.
